In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty. Darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Genesis 1:1-2
Water has been since the beginning, and it is a sustainer of life. Force a person to choose between material possessions and water, and inevitably water will be the choice. Gentle enough to clean a newborn baby, yet powerful enough to cut deep canyons. It is the ultimate gift for those who cannot readily access it.
Many families living in the Perales hills lug their water in 5 gallon buckets up the steep slope. It can be a back breaking routine. What we so easily take for granted, they cherish. Living for even just one day out of five gallon buckets of water will give you a sense of life for so many in Perales. No baths or showers, just wiping oneself down. No toilet, but rather going in a hole in the ground. No sink to drink from. No washer for your clothes or dishes. It is no exagerration to say that access to water will change lives.
By contributing to the Perales Water Project, you not only provide a family with running water, but also show them the love of Jesus Christ. John 7 says, "On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”
Although the people of Perales need running water, what they need even more is the living water, Jesus Christ. The Perales Water Project will try, first and foremost, to glorify Jesus Christ and spread his love in their mission to bring water to the people of Peru. As people are shown love through the gift of running water, they will also receive the greatest love of all, the love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ because it is the living water that will truly quench the thirst of the people of Perales.
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up unto eternal life. John 4:14
